Happy Holidays 2006-2007... posted on 12.21.06 by Aaron
Another great year is drawing to a close. We, Typhoon Ferri want to thank all of those who danced, shook, bought CDs, told a friend, added us on MySpace, gave a darn, uttered our name, booked us a show, party and/or wedding. 2006 was a nice year. We played new venues, began new songs. In early 2007 we will be releasing a new EP. Yesterday, we laid down the foundation for 3 more songs ("Time To Overcome," "Good for Nothin'," and "Movin' on it's Own,") with Kenny Lewis at Mixed Emotions Music in Middleton, MA. Kenny is easily the best engineer we have worked with. He produces a stress-free environment, is funny and gets the sound quickly. It is a refreshing change after the 3 long years it took to complete "Detergency." Kenny, a BIG Typhoon Ferri THANK YOU. Besides preparing a new CD, 2007 will see us playing some new venues and returning to see old friends (Playwrite; New Haven, CT and Shamrocks; Wakefield, RI). We are also looking to work with some new management which we feel may help us take another step into spreading our music to the masses. Thank you so much for making Typhoon Ferri apart of your life. Happy Holidays and Warm Wishes for 2007.

It is amazing at the amount of Free CD requests we have received since mid-September. We simply cannot keep up with the requests. It is flattering and we are so appreciative that our music has reached all corners of the United States and Europe. We are trying to find an easy way to mass produce and mail these samplers, but have yet to find a suitable solution. On the flipside, We should have some new MP3s to post soon. You can also purchase our CDs on this site using Pay Pal or search for us at http://www.cdbaby.com You can also purchase songs on I-tunes (see link a few stories below). We are sorry for the delay. In other news, we have one song, Whitewater, in the can for the new EP. We hope to start 1 or 2 new songs in the next week or two. We are working with Kenny Lewis http://www.mixedemotionsmusic.com on the track and will do a little more work with him. So far, we are very excited with what is being laid down and applaud the effort of Kenny. He has been fantastic.

Blackhorse Tavern Show Cancelled due to Sox posted on 10.23.04 by Aaron
GO SOX....Sadly, our show for tonight is cancelled at the Blackhorse Tavern, in order to feature Game 1 of the World Series. We encourage you to go to the Tavern anyway, and watch the game on their big screen and eat some tasty grub. We also encourage all fans to celebrate not violate. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Snelgrove family and their friends and Emerson community. There is no need to riot in a time where our city should be celebrating as one. To those who thought it was cool to vandalize and harass, you are a disgrace to the Sox nation and you are not a true Sox fan. When is Bronson pitching?

Congrats to our beloved Red Sox on the greatest comeback in sports history. It is not a World Series Ring (yet) but boy it feeeeeels damnnnnnn gooooood. LL is a good luck charm, I will root for your Mets, I owe you. Amidst this madness, I must announce a change in plans this Friday at the Western Front. Due to the absence of a TF member we are not able to perform. Instead, MY FIRST HANDGUN will be added to the bill. I still invite you to hang out with me there because I will be at the Western Front. Come down and talk Sox and watch 3 HOT bands (These Thieves and Worth the Wait included). One band is from NYC, feel free to talk Yankees with them. Show starts promptly at 10pm. Blackhorse Tavern Show on Saturday is still happening. It is a free show and the Sox will be on in the background, because you know you would rather hear our music instead of Tim McCarver. Pats and Jets baby, this is New England's week.

TF Caps off Big Week... posted on 5.30.04 by Aaron
Whhhheeeeeewww.. time to catch our breath. All was well worth it this week. A little AJ misfortune turned to gold as we enjoyed a great weekend. We had a successful debut at the Newport Blues Cafe. Thank you so much to the Myrow Entertaimnet Group for the opportunity and to Linda and all the staff there. MAD props (I sound like Stuart Scott) to Brian the soundman; who arguably gave us the best sound we ever heard. We'll be back July 1. Please do not miss that show. It WILL be HOT. Also, please check out Turtle Soup on Braodway in Providence, RI; great food and great service. Let me catch my breath...Last night, we were thrilled to be back at the Blackhorse Tavern in Boston. We thank the TF friends and fans for packing the joint (Where did Peter go?). It was a crowded, sweaty energetic set; dedicated to the memory of Stephen Womack. Thanks to the TF back-up singers, many making their on-stage debut. Also thanks to Josh, Carly, Mike and the crew at da 'Horse. We'll see you July 2. No shows for us now for the next 2 weekends, as we enjoy some needed rest time. We hope to work on some new songs too, and put the finishing touches on the new CD while we take the break. Tyler heads for Cuba (bring back some stoagies), Mark heads to bed, AJ heads to ??? But we get things going again soon after as ANDY STERN presents TF at the ASGARD on Mass Ave Cambridge, MA; Friday June 18. This is a medieval Irish themed bar/resturant with good food and imported Irish decor. We will start off acoustically, evolving the set as the night moves on. Free admission, good food, good music, and Andy Stern. Need I say more? We play all night...Again, for a full list of our summer performances, please check out our profile on www.bostonbands.com It has been a great start to the season, thank you to all who made that possible.. GO SOX.
In memory of a good friend... posted on 5.11.04 by Aaron
We learned today that a good friend of ours passed on April 12. This is very sad news for us. Stephen Womack was a man who always had a smile, a genuine smile. He was very supportive of us. Stephen was the bar manager at the Blackhorse Tavern in Fanueil Hall Boston. Always recognizable with his ponytail and Southern accent, Stephen was one of the most likeable persons we have been blessed to have met. He also poured a mean frosty Coors Light and even had the courage to put Typhoon Ferri stickers on expensive restaurant equipment. We will always remember him for his kindness and support and his taste of music. Please join us as we return to the Blackhorse Tavern on Saturday May 29, and raise a glass for Stephen Womack. We miss you, buddy! To all of his family, friends, co-workers and all that had the opportunity to experience his kindness, our hearts are with you. Hope you are playing golf above. Are the courses up there nicer than Myrtle Beach?

Tour of the Hospitals posted on 7.22.03 by Aaron
The last few weeks have seen various members of Typhoon Ferri in the hospital. Tyler has recovered and Mark is in the middle of recovering. To top it all off, AJ now has to see a Doctor for pre-cautionary reasons. This past weekend, Mark earned the Rock and Roller award for playing and singing under adverse conditions with an IV in his arm. He was unable to carry equipment and was quoted as saying "Forget the money, if I could just have someone carry my equipment all the time, I would be content," (applications are being accepted for the roadie position.) Reports of Heroin use are completely false. Also, reports that he was bitten by a rabid fan were false, too. Truth is, Mark fell ill due to a reaction caused by displeasure with AJ's new blonde streaky hair. At current time, AJ plans to leave hair as is and requests that Mark get over it. Thanks to the Blackhorse Tavern and Don Cristian and Mainevocals for their understanding. Love my LL wallpaper... New shows in the Boston area to be added soon for the fall..stay tuned.

As the intensity increases worldwide, one thing that I will continue to do is playing the music. Not thrilled that we are in war but since we are knee deep I hope we finish quickly. We wish the best for those thrust into such an undesirable situaion. Thanks to all who came to the Mar 7 Kendall show. It was one of the best birthday's that I have ever enjoyed. So many of you to mention, thank you for sharing in my good day. To Bob and the Juke Joint 213 in Long Island, thanks for the cake. Thank you Liz, Tracy and my LI ladies for the "singing" message. ... MAR 20 Tyler, Pete(r Grant), Kim (VP of Booking) and I were treated to a few rounds of drinks, at JJ Foley's downtown, aka JP's Hangout, (after our Mar 20 Plough and Stars show) by Steve Morse from the Boston Globe. Mr Morse wowed us with his stories about seeing Led Zeppelin in 1969...Steve, we got the Heinekin's next time. Spring and Summer are inching closer.... Look for us in Newport, RI, and Cape Cod, MA many times as the weather warms.

In Memory of the Station posted on 2.21.03 by Aaron
Many of you may know that last night saw one of the most horrific tragedies take place so close to my home. Around 95 concert-goers are dead. Many more injured. The Station, in West Warwick, RI is a popular venue for live music. Many of my closest friends frequented the small club. Fortunately, none of them were there last night but friends of friends were. It hurts. Our hearts to all those affected by this event. Our Sat show at the Rhino in Newport, RI will be dedicated to those involved. It is a small thing to do. But, the music must go on. I can only wish that bands lay off the pyrotechnic BS in small venues and that club owners go out of their way to make sure their place is conforming to fire standards. May this be the LAST time we live through something like this. Our hearts also go out to the victims' families in Chicago who suffered similarly. On a positive note, this time of year is marked with many birthdays in the TF crew....Mark and Tyler recently celebrated. Former Keyboardist Justin is celebrating today....I know I am missing many but b-day wishes to Liz (2/23), Tony and Bonnie (2/28), Shady from Pure Fiction (3/5? celebrate his day and mine on 3/7 at the Kendall Cafe on 3/7) and JP and I could keep going....Thanks for all the support...

05/11/00 - (humor) Hungry Chummaz Show Cancelled Portsmouth, NH- Two members of the dixie/hardcore trio "Hungry Chummahz" were arrested on Friday when police broke up a rowdy mosh pit in the wave pool at Water Country, New Hampshire's favorite family getaway spot. Reports indicate that the two men, age 24 and 25 respectively (known to their fans as "DarkChum" and "AlChum") were rapping and leaping on rubber frog pads, creating waves and commotion that one park official called "life threatening turbulence." "It was our first warm day of the summah," explained assistant lifeguard in training, Wendy Little, "They put their microphones in our speakaz system and there was like nothing we could do to control them... they were wicked loud." Water Country manager, Flip Dunster, could not explain why the "Hungry ChummaZ" were wearing the 16 and under half-off bracelets. "My daugter tells me that these guys are wildly popular with girls in New Hampshire, so our best guess is that some park visitors passed them through the fence." There was no formal explanation for the fact that "DarkChum" made it past the security gate with a gaff in his hand (see press picture). Reports indicate that the hell-raising music phenom used the weapon to pop several watertubes during his musical tirade. The "Hungry CHummahZ" released a statement from their jail cell indicating that they would like all of their fans to rally outside the police department and bring zig zags. The "Hungry CHummaZ," whose albums have sold out at the strawberries near the Pheasant Lane mall, have cancelled all remaining shows in May. Their June 2nd performance in the parking lot of the Hilltop Steakhouse in Saugus, MA is still on the schedule.
Harvest Fest 1999.. posted on 10.3.99 by Aaron
10/03/99 - Harvest Festival - Starks, Maine 15 Minutes into Typhoon Ferri's set at the Harvest Festival, the sun appeared. Typhoon Ferri performed for 90 minutes, and an audience of approximately 600 people sparked up their campfires and pipes. The show took place in a grass field that formed a beautiful ampitheater and many campers came down from their sites to sprawl out in front of the stage. The Harvest Festival supports a political cause: legalization of marijuana. Don Christianson spoke to the crowd after Typhoon Ferri's set and encouraged people to do their part to contact their politicians, and said "some people harvest tomatoes, some people harvest corn... that's not what we're harvesting here."

09/12/99 - (humor) TF Story of Creation: Allston, Massachussets Aaron Ferri smells a pumpkin pie while speed-walking Harvard Avenue. He drops his handweights and sprints to the door of a 6 story gothic-style apartment building. He realizes the smell is not coming from there, so he turns around and thinks to himself "Did I really smell pumpkin pie?" A shifty fellow wearing a hooded sweatshirt and tinfoil mittens apparently reads his mind. "It's pumpkin stuffed trout," he says, pointing to Riley's Roast Beef on the corner of Brighton Ave. "The pie is your imagination." Ferri gives himself a swift punch between the eyes. "I could use a person with a good imagination," says the man with the hood, "Do you also play bass guitar and have great stage presence?" At this point, Ferri is urinating down his legs into each of his treetorn shoes. "Let's make it happen" adds the hooded one lead singer/guitarist, Johnny Flypaper. "I have a nasty case of poison ivy right now, but the band will form right here, 2 weeks from this hour." Ferri agrees. "Typhoon" Tyler Montgomery joined the band two months later, after responding to a false ad for "Free Drum Kit." He was angry, then got over it. Typhoon Ferri moved on from there.
