Rock music has come a long way since the days of buddy holly and the genre's first emerging from the traditional blues. Rock music is such a wide category nowadays. Saying that you like rock music is similar to saying that you like sports, or that you like food, because it's so vague. "I like rock music" is the kind of thing i would expect the token asian person in an eighties movie would say. Boston's rock music scene has several great venues and plenty of fun local bands. A lot has changed since the days of Zeppelin, hell a lot has changed since Motley Crue, but Boston-based band Typhoon Ferri is still keeping the faith, even if the style can't be called rock music. Typhoon Ferri's great energy will convince you that rock music is alive and well, not pinned down dead under some plaques at the Hard Rock Cafe. The same town that nurtured Aerosmith's brand of rock music surely has one or two good hits left in her. It still has the furry brow and the overbite for some people, but for others, it's more refined and polished and bright. There's no topic more contraversial to music industry people than the current state of rock music. Is it dead? of course not. Is it going strong? Can't say that it is. In reality, the best way to judge the state of rock music is to look at the most popular bands going at it today: U2, The Rolling Stones, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. What do you notice about these rock music projects? They are all older bands. What can we expect for the future of rock music when these guys pass into the elderly category? Not sure, but the future doesn't exactly look bright for rock music.
