If you are looking for great a album review, I would suggest the new york times. The first time I heard of DMB and God Street Wine, it was from an album review in the times. One of my former roomates had an internship there and he was able to do some work with top-notch reviewers from England. Mostly following around bands and stuff - ie almost famous. Anyways. he's a much better writer than I am (in case that wasn't already obvious). One of my favorite album reviews of all time was of Jay-Z's the gray album. It was a nice retrospective look at the beatles and their influence on the modern music styles, rap included. An album review is a tremendous way to get into new music. ...

continued... Fanzines are another great way to find out about new music, free music and read great album reviews. I subscribe to a fanzine called rock middle class that is based in minneapolis minnesota and i love it. It comes with album reviews, insider news on up-and-coming bands and lots of quality information about live shows in the northeast. Album reviews don't tell the whole story, but these album reviews really paint a great picture and I encourage all music fans to subscribe to a fanzine.
